AGE Overview:
On April 22, 2010, the California Public Utility Commission (CPUC) approved Southern California Edison’s Above-Ground Equipment (AGE) advice filing with Resolution E - 4329.
On August 2, 2010, SCE discontinued the customer option of installing equipment associated with underground distribution systems below ground under added facilities. This new policy is limited to equipment installations on private property. In the public right of way, or public property, SCE's standard design preference will be to incorporate above-ground equipment subject to review by the local munici-pality. Any customer requesting new facilities, or in some cases, expanding exist-ing facilities will be required to have their equipment on private property installed above-ground where it is technically feasible to do so. The reason for this change is to help SCE improve service reliability, provide safety benefits for SCE em-ployees and customers, and protect the environment.
What this AGE deadline means to you:
The sunset date for installation of facilities grand fathered under AGE has now expired. Existing designs with BURD transformers that have not been installed or in flight to be installed as of December 2, 2011 will now be required to be re-designed to include above Ground Equipment.
